I need to gain weight
I have stopped wearing shorts because without a belt, my New Future shorts of size 30 can slip off anytime!
I realised I have lost alot of weight(in engineering terms: mass) ever since I entered into NUS. It is all because of stress!
Just before I enter into uni. I was quite fat, my weight was about 50 kg. Look at Ying Hui's arm and my arm. My arm was twice of hers!
Stress helps to reduce weight!
Now I look like a haggard weakling. I just weighed myself and it is about 43kg!

50 - 43 = 7kg lost.
7 kg lost not because of friction or heat. So where did the 7kg go to?
I thought according to
mass conversation, energy cannot be lost but only can be converted.
So what happened to my 7kg?
Assume non-steady flow due to accumulation of mass when eating. When shitting...considered leaking in engineering terms?
Enough of irritating engineering terms, I need to think about gaining weight so that I can wear shorts.
I don't want to look thin, because I don't look good looking thin. ->Stupid answer.
I heard that our boobs will shrink first when we lose weight..I don't want to be a minus A cup please... Please shrink my fat tummy first.
I am going to eat alot after exams. Make me happy and I will eat alot. haha. *hint to Isaac =))
Lets go and eat all the famous hawker food during my holiday. I have the list of where is the best chicken rice, best hokkein mee, and more. =))
Fee Fi Fo Fum, I smell food!

Exam Stress
Going to the NUS library 6 days a week from 11.30am to 10pm is a torture, but I have to endure this period of time and push myself to study harder. I do not have enough time to study everything, so I didn't do well for the past 2 exams that I took.
Fluid Mechanics: 1/4 blank.
Thermodynamics: 1/4 blank too because I just started the last 2nd question 15 minutes before the end of the exam. I didn't plan my time well for each question. I am really slow.
Weary eyes. Super shagged in the library.

Why are there so many people against their government?
2 Thailand commercial airports were paralyzed by thousands of yellow big birds laying their eggs outside the airports.

Flights to Bangkok were cancelled. I know of some friends who were stuck in there, I think they have to travel all the way to Pattaya to catch the Jet Star plane home. What a horrible experience and a waste of money.
Thailand's reputation has been ruined because of these anti-government protestors. They are loyal to their King(hence wear yellow) but not the government so why can't the King say something?
Next..
India- Mumbai. Reputation has decreased by a 50%. Who wants to travel to a potentially dangerous place like Mumbai?

Singaporean held hostage at Mumbai's Oberoi Hotel killedSINGAPORE: Singapore's Foreign Ministry says the Singaporean Chinese woman held hostage at the Oberoi Hotel in Mumbai has been killed.
Speaking at a news conference at the Ministry, Director of the Consular Directorate Jai Sohan Singh said they were told at 9:35pm Singapore time that she died tragically.
This was after her husband, who had flown up to Mumbai, made a final confirmation of her identity. She is 28-year-old lawyer Lo Hwei Yen who was in Mumbai on a working trip.
Indian authorities had found her body on the 19th floor of the hotel. The Singapore Foreign Ministry is helping the family to make arrangements to bring back the body.
The Foreign Ministry confirms there are no more Singaporeans stranded in any of the hotels in the Indian financial capital which was hit by coordinated terror attacks on Wednesday night.
115 Singaporeans were known to be in Mumbai either for work or leisure during the attacks that have killed some 130 people.
Meanwhile, Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong has expressed his sadness over the death of Ms Lo. He knows the family and had attended her wedding last year.
Upon learning the tragic news, SM Goh went to visit the family who were in a state of shock.
"Unfortunately, what we feared came true," Mr Goh told reporters. She is young, educated and has a husband. She doesn't deserve to die in that filthy place. Fcked up militants who killed 130 over people and wounded many tourists in the hotels.
What are those young boys thinking? Please go back to school to study and follow what the government has planned for you. Whatever you are doing now is all planned by the government, you have no choice.
Why kill innocent people who didn't offend you directly?
I realised with guns and many rebels/supporters, they can topple the government anytime.
Updated at 11.20pm.
INDIAN police and army commandoes have killed all the Islamic militants holed up in Mumbai's Taj Mahal hotel and operations are continuing in a second hotel, officials said today.
Thanks for killing them.
To the victims, rest in peace.

You got punked or you got punched?
"You are on Candid Camera!" ,"Just for laugh" or "Punk'd", have you watched any of these shows before? A hidden camera will video down the pranks done on strangers. Everybody has their own tolerance level, did you pick the right person to play with?
So this painter cum actor was beaten up by a prank victim. Served him right?
Jude told me that he fought alot in school when he was young, such as biting people, beating up people in primary and secondary school. E.g. digging out flesh from his friends. He just fought with a Ah Beng who has a wife last year because he slept with a young girl.
Jude looks KIND..but actually he is NOT! He won't be kind to people who test his patience. haha.
I think many guys have fought with their friends, sibling or enemies when they were young. Unless they are the super nerdy and obedient kind. My secondary school life is the most happening time, I weren't involved in any fights but I have witnessed some.
No Ah bengs in NUS..boring...I see muggers and nerds everywhere including me. haha.
My secondary school has many Ah Bengs, I know one Ah Beng who liked me and had a huge gang. My 1st valentine day celebration was spent with him...omg.
He is now either in jail or boy's home because one of his gang member told me in the past that the guy who likes me just "paranged" somebody. I'm not surprised.
Isaac fought with his friends before too!It was a 3 minutes fight in a toilet settled by 2 groups of people, Isaac's friends and Michael's(whom Isaac has to fight with) friends.
They had some rules to it:
1. Only Isaac and Michael can fight with each other. Other members just watch the show and guard the toilet.
2. No punching of face and groin.3. 3 minutes of punching and once time is up, no more fighting.Haha, hilarious right? Everybody fights differently. I fought with my brother when I was young(primary school), both of us use belts, skipping ropes, tissue boxes, feather dusters and canes to fight with each other. We were really mischievous.
These few years, my brother and I are in super good terms, he is my listening ear and he provides great advices for me. We have learnt alot from each other.
Quarrel instead of fighting...
But I think
KINDNESS KILLS HARDER THAN VIOLENCE.

White tigers bite, now cute Pandas bite too
Recently, an incident occurred at the Singapore Zoo whereby three white Bengal tigers mauled a zoo cleaner to death after the man jumped into a moat surrounding their enclosure.
Yesterday, a Panda from a China Zoo bit a student at his arms and legs. The student said this,
"Yang Yang was so cute and I just wanted to cuddle him. I didn't expect he would attack." So even gentle-looking animals bite too...
Just by its appearance, I can understand why white tigers are violent and dangerous

But, cute hello pands or tarepandas? They bite as hard too? I thought they only bite bamboos...

I wonder if it applies to humans.
Are the violence levels of a gentle-looking person or ferocious-looking person the same when provoked?
Personally I think the most scariest people are the gentle-looking people. They may look kind and graceful but when they get angry, they can be the most ugliest and scariest person on earth. Even uglier than ferocious-looking people.
Anyway, I want to crap something about the incident that happened in the Singapore Zoo a few weeks back...
Video of white tigers mauling zoo cleaners. I think I heard people clapping, they should be clapping to distract the tigers and not clapping for a good show right? =) Do watch it asap before it gets deleted.

I find it a dumb way to commit suicide.
Why dumb?
If you want to commit suicide,
dying instantly would be the best way to commit suicide. Nobody wants to suffer before they die unless they are masochistic.
This cleaner suffers in many ways.
1. The
pain he is feeling when the tigers were mauling him. Every pierce into his skin must be painful.
2.
Humilation. If he is a celebrity, humilation kills but since he is a cleaner, a small part of his face was thrown when "spectators" were watching a live slaughter show. Some of the witnesses thought it was a just a show until they saw blood. -.-
3.
Struggling to protect his head with the yellow bucket. I think he is contradicting himself, he wants to protect his face from being mauled and at the same time not to show witnesses his face but in the end he still succumbed to his wounds right? I am confused.
So what's up with the spongebob bucket?
I never like people who committed suicide. They are very selfish. Have they thought about their family, friends and loved ones? They are even more selfish if they want their family to clear their credit card bills. LOL.
A girl commited suicide because her boyfriend dumped her, her parents were distraught.
A teenage boy jumps down to death because he fails his exams. He is the only son...
I think whatever decisions you are going to make matters to your family, they are the only one who can be there for you. They are not hypocrites or backstabbers, they are your fans.
Your family has done nothing wrong to hurt you, why did you commit suicide and leave them?
Sorry for emo-ing but I can feel what is like when you have done nothing wrong yet people still hurt you.
Tomorrow will be a better day!

Why give me all the pressure?
All I need is your sincere support and encouragement for this period of time because I need to study for my final exams, instead you gave me sadness and disappointment.
I know I do not have time for you.
I know I am studying with many guys in the library but they are all my study mates, nothing else. But Isabel has also joined our mugger gang with Ming Yi. Zi Cao and Eugene has also joined in. Really thankful for studying with us.
I know who are the right people to be friends with.
But you don't trust me.
You don't appreciate my love for you. Why must my actions be tangible then you can see how strong my love is for you?
I rejected guys and ignore guys who try to woo me so that I won't lead them on or give them any false hopes.
I praised how sweet you are or talk about you infront of my guy friends to let them know that you mean alot to me.
I love you and no one else but why can't you just trust me.
I have done nothing wrong to betray you why must you do this to hurt me?
My exams is starting on Tuesday, don't make me fall into depression. I don't want to cry and go crazy like how I did when my ex-boyfriend dump me 2 weeks before A levels.
All I need is your trust and understanding.
After my exams are over, I will have more time for you, my family and my friends.
I am really sorry I can't celebrate Shi Yun's birthday on the 27th November as it falls during my exam period, but I will ensure I will plan a wonderful birthday celebration for her. Those items she requested for, I will buy it for her. =))
Exams sucks, it is the time when it reveals how I didn't manage and balance my friendship, relationship with boyfriend and family. I apologise again.
I will make up for it.
Happy birthday to my mother in advance as her birthday falls on the 24th Novmember. I will organise a picnic with my family after exams, their constant support everyday has helped me to study harder so that I won't disappoint them.
I know I won't do well for exams but I will just try my best.
The song playing now describes how I feel. A sad song but I really love it alot. Latest song by Gavin Rossdale- Love remains the same. Btw, Gavin Rossdale is the husband of Gwen Stefani.
I, never thought that I
Had anymore to give
You're pushing me so far
Here I am without you
Drink, to all that we have lost
Mistakes we have made
Everything will change
But,love remains the same

What to do when the library is closing?
15 minutes before the NUS library level 5 closes at 10pm, there will be an annoucement followed by some classical music. Finally mugging is over, it is time to pack our bags and GO HOME! "Dats a Wrap!"
So I started miming along with the music. The people infront of me from other tables were looking at me and laughing.
Anyway I hope Analeigh from American Next Top Model Cycle 11 will win the competition, but everybody predicted Mckey because she is more professional. But Analeigh is sweeter and her features such as eyes and lips are bigger! haha.

Crazy moments with my mugger friends
I studied in NUS library everyday with Jude, Yan Jie, sometimes Kah Gim, Jian Cong, Nicholas, Yeh Xuan, and my Orientation group freshies too such as Desmond, Pearlin, Jasmine Chia, Yvonne, Gerard, Wee Hong and Eugene.
To my orientation group freshies and leaders, I will be organising a BBQ session after exams either at my house or at Jude's BUNGALOW HOUSE.
I was contemplating whether I should hold the BBQ at the Public Park just infront of my flat. But there are no taps at the Park to wash our hands or utensils except for a BBQ pit. =(( Unless they have walked to the flat and take a lift to the 11th floor to my house to wash their hands.
Cast your vote? Jude's BUNGALOW HOUSE or my HDB house? Do tell me when you see me in the library? hee.
Jude claims that his house is a condo but a 3-storey condo??? What kind of house is that!?!
My friends are a great bunch of people. We encourage each other, help each other and respect each other. They are simple-minded and carefree. Jude and Yan Jie are the funniest ones. They can make me laugh more than 10 times a day, especially during lunch and dinner.
Yan Jie in Grey and Jude in Black. Yan Jie's laughter is very contagious, I have to stand far away from him when he laughs because he will make laugh until I get a stomach pain. Jude is the most encouraging, helpful and funny guy. His sentences are impromptu but they can turn out really funny. There is always a subtle meaning or a indirect meaning behind his sentences.

They can make me laugh more than 10 times a day, especially during lunch and dinner.
But I think I made them laughed even more than 10 times a day. HAHA.
Jude said, "I am a spark among my friends." Especially during orientation, my freshies were crazy because I was crazy, haha. Actually, I think it is also part of my job to make people feel bonded and happy too. =))
When it comes to studying, we are serious. But definitely we have some funny moments in the library. I treat it like a destressing moment. haha.
Yan Jie saw a sweet, fair, feminine girl sitting near him. He SCRUNTISED her every few minutes. haha. Gerard was there too. I helped Yan Jie write a POST IT Note: Hi, my friend would like to make friends with you." I told Yan Jie I will help him pass it to her. He told me not to pass it to her but you can tell from his face that he really her number. TSK.

The library announced that the library will be closing soon. Yan Jie still didn't ask that pretty girl for her number. So Jude wrote this pick up line and showed it to Yan Jie to use this chessy method.. "Go tell her, the library may be closing, but I am always open" HOW HILARIOUS!

Gerard found out the pretty's girl name just before he left! He is pro... Haha.

Desmond looks like Bruce Lee.

Pearlin is such a sweet girl! She will make a good wife! haha.

Post It notes chat conversation.

Isaac came to find me during his nights out. He booked out on Wednesday at 6pm and have to book in later at night at 10pm. He was so sweet to buy an "Exam-wellness pack" for me. Haha. I have collected about 3 goodie packs from school, there are some useful stuff inside. Kiasu Jasmine =))

Jude said that this is a nice shot. He is a photographer so he knows best what kind of photos are nice. But Kah Kim's hair got chopped off and Yan Jie's head was gone, nice shot? haha

It feels good to feel stress, so that I can push myself to study harder!

My sisters plus Eugene came over to my house to study too! Ying Hui is so hardworking! Good Job =))
Thanks to my friends who messaged or called me to ask about my rib problem, I am so glad that I have many friends who care about me. Thanks Eugene for accompanying me to the NUH hospital and sometimes mugging with me till late at night and take bus 74 back together!
Thanks Hui Ying and Shi Yun for your constant support and encouragement.
Thanks Felicia for your concern too! You remember my anniversary with Isaac and you never fail to wish us on the 18th of every month!
Thanks Ying Hui for your listening ear, I love talking to you because you are mature and you know how to balance relationship, work, studies and religion very well. I ought to learn from you!

Elephant man will no longer be called elephant man =))
I will pray for you, you will look normal soon ok! To hear that you are not giving up and your enthusiasm to celebrate spring festival with your family, I can encourage one of my secondary school friend not to end her life. She wanted to commit suicide at the age of 30 years old because she doesn't want to witness the ageing process on her.
Once she sees a wrinkle or any saggy skin on her face, she is ready to jump down. I do not know if her "ambition" has changed because I have not contacted her for a long time. I hope she has reviewed and changed her goals, LOL.

Alone~~
Should it be a good thing that I can have the whole house to myself for the next few days? My brother just went to Korea this morning and my parents are going phuket tomorrow. So I will be home alone for the next few days!
But I still prefer my warm home when my family is around in the house or else I will feel weird without them. Nobody to talk to or laugh with at home... =((
But I will be in the library everyday with my great bunch of friends, the super crazy friends!
I love my parents so much, they knew I caught a cold because I was caught in the rain, they didn't dare pack their luggage just now because they are worried that I will fall sick tomorrow. I assured them that I will be fine, but they still said they rather not go overseas to take care of me.
Haha I told them I am big enough to take care of myself.
My grandmother wanted to come over to my house to take care of me because in the past she would come over to my house to take care of my brother and I if my parents went overseas.
I will be seeing my chest doctor on wednesday myself, everything will be fine =))
Shi Yun wanted to stay overnight at my house to accompany me but it might be a little inconvenient for her because she has no school but I have school.
I have a great family and a great bunch of friends who support me!
Isaac's sweet morning messages and night messages plus 3-4 phone calls a day can make me feel excited and loved for a day =))
Good night everyone, I have been sleeping around 11plus everyday! Sleep late = deteriorating organs. The doctors might be right =))

World's Fattest Man Gets Married
Manuel Uribe Garza from Mexico and was one of the heaviest people in medical history. After reaching a peak weight of around
570 kg, he is unable to leave his bed since 2001!
His BOOBS ARE HUGE!

A forklift to lift him up to transfer him to another bed with wheels if he wants to travel somewhere.

He married his wife Solís from his
bed this year. Wah, true love. Because nobody will want to marry a bedridden obese man, so I guess his wife really loves him or maybe she wants fame?? Who knows, the people in this world have motives. haha.
I wonder how he proposed to his wife as he can't kneel down to propose to her, so maybe he hid the ring under his fats and pretend to ask her to check for rashes around his body. TENG TENG! she found the ring! And she said yes. LOL
Oh yah...I think I can play hide and seek in between his layers of fats at his stomach too. haha.

stepdad caned step-son 100 times in 2 hours!
http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking%2BNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_298787.html
A MAN frustrated with his stepson's truancy from school and constant refusal to do homework went too far when he caned him about 100 times over two hours last Sept.
The cries of the 10-year-old boy alerted neighbours who called the police. The boy's stepfather, the owner of a hair salon, was arrested.
The boy suffered multiple bruises and abrasions and was warded at KK Women's & Children's Hospital for eight days where he was treated with painkillers and creams.
He was subsequently placed in Sunbeam Place, a home for abused and neglected children, in Choa Chu Kang.
On Wednesday, the boy's 38-year-old stepfather was jailed for nine months for ill-treating him.
He had pleaded guilty to a charge under the Children and Young Persons Act and could have received a maximum of four years' jail and a $4,000 fine.
Even before the hearing began, the man and the boy's mother, who works as a hairstylist, sobbed in the public gallery. The couple married in 2001 and have two other younger children, the court heard.
The man later trembled so much that District Judge Soh Tze Bian granted his lawyer's request for him to sit in the dock.
According to court documents, the boy was scolded by his mother on Sept 17 last year for lying to his teachers that he had taken a spelling test in school.
The mother then handed over two tied rattan canes to the stepfather who struck him on his buttocks, arms and back over a two-hour period.
The court heard that the boy's parents had already received numerous calls from teachers complaining about his misdemenour over the previous two years.
But Assistant Public Prosecutor Puvaneswari told the court that this was not the first time the man had ill-treated his stepson.
He had already received a warning from the police in early 2007 after the boy's teachers noticed marks on his body and made a report.
While the man's lawyer, Mr Lee Mun Hooi noted that his client went overboard with his disciplinary method, he added that it was not done out of wickedness.
He said, 'My client is remorseful and questions himself as to why he behaved that way.'
Mr Lee urged the judge not to mete out a jail sentence but to instead impose a high fine, calling this case an 'exceptional' one after various other cases of child abuse were mentioned.
In sentencing, the judge said the offence related to family violence and ordered the man to also undergo counselling sessions in prison.
The boy's wounds have since healed completely, although he now fears his parents, the court heard.
The step-father was overboard, why resort to violence or anger? Why can't things be settled peacefully?
I was on the way home when I heard a mother screaming over the phone to tell his son to stop playing computer games and to start studying, apparently, the son screamed even louder and prevent the mother from saying anything...

Obama, I knew you will win
Obama is the 1st African American President of the United States! I knew he will be the president when he was competing against Hillary Clinton and later with John MCcain.
Change is a powerful word that can be so simple to say but the way Obama expressed his thoughts about changing America, it was amazing. He is a charismatic leader and I can't wait for him to change America! More bilaterial ties wtih Asia please =))
I smiled when I watched the shares gone up in the news today as more investors are optimistic about the future if Obama takes the lead as the president of America.
His top 3 priorites!
1. End Iraq War
2. Universal Health care
3. Engergy Independence
Aftermath celebrations from what I can remember from channel 5 news TV Mobile. LOL
An artist created a massive Obama portrait at Barcelona Beach

To see the black Kenya people jumping for joy and celebrating for Obama, I felt really good.
He has "touched" the lives of many people not only in Africa and America but also in Asia because there is this place in Japan called Obama.
This is how the villagers in Obama, Japan supported him:
"Wearing colorful T-shirts and headbands with the logo "I Love Obama", residents gathered at a public hall, singing songs and shouting "Obama, Obama, Obama!"
In the letter, Obama said: "I'm touched by your friendly gesture... We share more than a common name; we share a common planet and common responsibility."It is just amazing how Obama replied that. He is a great leader!

Engineers model them! So whatever useful stuff you are using now are created by engineers!

Sometimes when you ask somebody to help you take a picture of the two of you from far, there are some inconsiderate passer-bys who just walked pass or pretend they didn't know that you were trying to have your picture taken. With this long stick, nobody dares to walk pass unless they limbo rock below the stick. haha.

Studying in the library for the next few days
I think the library is the most conducive place to study because my home is full of distractions.
The top 3 distractions
1) Internet in my Laptop
2) Television, channel 8 n U shows are dumb but I don't know why I get addicted to them
3) Bed. I always have my afternoon nap, I am such a pig.
My brother from Raffles Institution studies in the library everyday but plays his MMORPG games and watches youtube korean shows and videos at night. He studies and plays everyday, no wonder his cap is 4.0/4.0 in RI.
I will study and play at the same time, since blogging is my hobby, I will still blog when there are inspirations, haha. Means no more TV and afternoon nap for me. haha.
Anybody studying in the library can always find Jasmine in level 5 of NUS Central Library until 8pm, hopefully my father allows me to drive to school when he goes overseas next week =))
I was studying with Ying Hui on Friday after school and Isaac came directly to NUS from his camp to meet me. He studied his Military Police Laws as his exam is on Monday.
Initially I told him I don't want to meet him but he insisted.
Conversation via SMS.
Isaac Darbee: Can I meet you for dinner?Jas: No, I don't want.
Isaac Darbee: Please meet me, I am very handsome today.
Jas: WTH? So what?
Iz: I spike my hair. I want to show you my hair. I want to see you.
Jas: EEEE..I don't want meet you la, nerdy NS spectacles with spike hair is CHUI! Is like a nerd trying to act yandao.
Iz: Please la, meet me ok?
Jas: I am studying in school, you come and find me.
Iz: Ok!
I don't know why Isaac started to change his image. Is he attracting a new girl? haha. But he said he spiked his hair to give me a surprise, he wants to change a new look just for me. But I never complained about his previous hairstyle eh.

Initally, I kept teasing him that he looks ugly with that spike hair. (jokingly) But later I call him Yandao. Oops! I complimented him that he looks handsome with the spike hair. haha.
Darbee came to study with me at NUS library on Saturday. I saw Chin Huat and Frederick, next time I can study with them =))

I told him he looks nerdy with the spectacles, I think he looks better without spectacles if he wants to spike his hair. His eyes are so pretty! DAMN. He has a thick double eyelid and a XIAO YAN just below his eyes. I got eyebags instead! I want a XIAO YAN! dang. I can't stand his complexion too, no pimples and no oil. SO GOOD! I am plagued by acne and oil. =((

Studying really hard!

OK what I wore on that day. Engineering girls don't wear revealing clothes to school. I never wore a dress to school for more than 8 months. I only wore them to dates. haha.

Less chairs in new SMRT/SBS buses
I bet many of you have sat in these new buses which are made to be wheel-chair friendly and at the same time to carry more passengers as there are less seats in the new buses now.
But in the news recently, wheel-chair bounded passengers can't get up into these buses because the driver said they are not trained to help them. LIKE WTF? Only a few drivers are trained to help these wheel-chair bounded passengers into the buses. Then why did you design these new buses? So that you can increase the bus fares?
SINGAPORE: The message of the little blue sticker seems obvious: We’re a wheelchair—friendly bus. But, as disabled commuters have found out the hard way, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re welcome aboard.
Mr Lee Jun Hui, flagged down SBS Service No 57 outside One Raffles Quay three weeks ago. Though the decal declaring it a wheelchair accessible bus (WAB) was displayed on the windscreen, the driver refused to let him on.
“He said he was not authorised to do so. I’d understand if the bus was crowded, but it wasn’t,” said the puzzled 27—year—old, who works as an auditor at KPMG.
To ensure this was no fluke, Mr Lee, in the company of this TODAY reporter, recently tried to board services 128 and 130 at Robinson Road after 6.20pm. The drivers of all four buses were apologetic.
Despite displaying the blue decal, they told him they did not have approval from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and SBS Transit to ferry wheelchair—users.
Nonetheless, 20 minutes later at Cecil Street, he flagged down service 57. The bus driver got down, laid the ramp on the kerb and wheeled Mr Lee aboard. At Novena, Mr Lee alighted and went the rest of the way home by train — as confused as ever about WAB services.
While there are just 16 official WAB routes, buses on other service routes, such as the three above, do also carry the wheelchair—friendly decal.
“I wished the authorities would be more consistent,” said Mr Lee. “What’s the point of displaying the decal when the bus drivers are not authorised to take users like myself? It gives the wrong impression that there are many more WABs on the roads, when effectively, there aren’t.”
He is not the only one confounded. In June, student Thomas Teo, 19, faced similar rejection by service 14 — in this case, one of the 16 approved WAB routes — at a Lower Delta Road bus stop.
“I was very upset. That experience put me off totally; I prefer to use the MRT,” said Mr Teo.
SBS Transit’s explanation
Their frustrations follow expectations that were heightened when it was announced, earlier this year, that 40 per cent of public buses here would be wheelchair—accessible by 2010, and all of them by 2020.
Recently, SBS Transit revealed it is spending S$147 million on 400 new WABs next year, which would come with low floors, wheelchair lots and retractable ramps at the doors. A quarter of SBS’ 2,800—strong fleet now has such features.
Said Ms Tammy Tan, SBS Transit’s vice president of corporate communications: “Although we only have 16 WAB services, we have many more wheelchair—accessible buses that ply the roads on other routes.”
She added: “Not all routes can be designated WAB routes because of the infrastructure along the way.”
For one to be so designated, 80 per cent of the bus stops along the route must be wheelchair—friendly, or such passengers would have difficulties getting on, off or around the bus—stop.
For these passengers’ safety, said Ms Tan, “bus captains will not allow them to board if they are not plying wheelchair—accessible routes. This was what happened in the incidents cited by Mr Lee.”
As for the bus captain of Service 57 who allowed him on board, SBS Transit said this was “actually not allowed due to safety reasons and will remind all Bus Captains to comply with guidelines”.
Still, Mr Lee’s point is: If the buses are not on designated WAB routes, why display the wheelchair—friendly sticker in the first place?
SBS Transit said this was “for deployment issues”. It is “reviewing what can be done to distinguish” WABs on designated routes from those that are not.
Introduced in 2006, WAB services are gradually: replacing existing fleets. The LTA said: “These services are rolled out by bus operators based on the available pool of WABs and are subject to scheduling and operational considerations.” — TODAY/ra

Enough of SBS Transit useless wheel-chair friendly buses, SMRT are launching more new buses onto the roads in Singapore. But I think there are not enough seats for the passengers. I know you want to maximise the space in the bus but do you know that alot of eldery people take SMRT?
Especially 851. Everytime I am in 851, more than 70% of the passengers are old people. Most of the seats were taken up by the eldery people but there are some feeble eldery people standing up in the bus. Now with the new bus, there are less seats and they are definitely not enough to cater to the large group of eldery people.
SMRT drivers love to JAM BREAK. SERIOUSLY, THEY LOVE TO JAM BREAK! But I don't mind(sitting down) as long as I am not late for school or appointments.
But I MIND IF I AM STANDING UP AND YOU BLOODY HELL JAM BREAK FOR EVERY BUS STOP!SBS transit buses are turtle-moving buses and they don't jam break hence standing in this bus is much safer.
SO IF
SMRT LOVES TO JAM BREAK and we have SO FEW SEATS in this new bus, do you expect the eldery people who are standing up to open their legs to balance themselves at the moment quickly? You need an extremely fast reaction to counter your own inertia.
I think all the seats in the new buses should be wrapped up in green instead of 4 green seats. Because there are some inconsiderate youngsters who don't give up their seats for the needy or for the old.
I never dare to sit on
PRIORITY SEATS in the MRT or the green seats in the buses because they should be reserved for the eldery or the pregnant. But there are some sleepyheads who love to sit on these green seats and "pretend" to sleep. A pregnant lady was just right infront of you but you ignored her because your eyelids were closed.
With less seats, more space for standing hence more passengers. Smelling other people body odour is fine for me as I am not a hygiene or clean freak. But standing for 3 hours in a traffic jam KILLS. I was in a new bus 52 last 2 weeks ago and it was fully packed. The passengers mostly poly students have to stand for 3 hours because there was a huge jam in PIE.
OLD BUS with more seats

NEW BUS with less seats

If the elderly people are the one standing for 3 hours in a packed bus.
They may have incontinence! My grandmother can't stand up for long and everytime I go out with her, she needs to find a seat to sit down. She is old and she can't control her bladder too, standing up for long will result in incontinence.
So get ready to have urine all over the bus if there are too many eldery people standing in the bus for too long.
Is it worth it for the rise in bus fares? Senior citizen bus fares should decrease instead. For young adults, since we can get to work on time because we can squeeze into the buses instead of waiting for another bus, maybe we can accept the increase of bus fares.
I got a feeling that the bus fares will increase again because SMRT/SBS bought new buses. This arrangement of the seats is THE WORST of ALL!

Design flaw? Please enlighten me on who can sit on that corner chair? Shopping bags or 1 legged man?

I think only 20 years old He Pingping can sit there. He is the shortest man in the world.

Another thing to faint about.

Not only are there less chairs in buses.

There are even lesser chairs in the MRT now. The reason: "it was to reduce crowdness during rush hour so that people can get to their destination on time. "

What is MRT's positioning when it comes to designing a MRT train? elderly-friendly or to maximise the space= more people = more money $$$$? I am confused. Anyway I know that there are heading towards the latter, they rather earn more money than think about the ageing population in Singapore.
I think my grandmother might have to bring her own foldable chair into the MRT if there are no seats available.
